Privacy Policy

• Account details — if you sign in, we receive your email address (and, with Google sign-in, your name and profile photo) to create your rider account.
• Things you save — your garage (bikes), gear, favourite routes and spots, and meeting points, so they follow you across devices.
• Newsletter — if you join the list, we store your email to send you updates you asked for.
• Rides & location — only if you choose to record or import a ride: the GPS track of that ride, its stats, and the roads and places it passed. Recording is opt-in and off until you turn it on. See Recording your rides & location below.
• Usage data — basic, privacy-friendly analytics (pages visited, rough device/region) to understand what’s useful. We never sell your personal information.

To run and improve your account and the site, to show you what you’ve saved, and to send updates you opted into. We’ll only email you about Tarmac Nation, and you can unsubscribe any time.

If you turn on ride recording (or import a ride), we collect the GPS track of that ride to show you your route, distance and stats, and to work out which listed venues you rode past or stopped at. This is always your choice, and we ask for it as two separate, opt-in consents:

• Record my rides — capture and save your own rides to your account.
• Count my rides toward the most-loved roads — include your rides, de-identified, in the anonymous aggregate that maps the most-loved roads across QLD and Australia (below). You can record your rides without turning this on.

You can change or withdraw either consent at any time from your rider profile. Withdrawing removes your rides from the aggregate counts going forward and retroactively. Your full-resolution track is stored privately and is never shown publicly — a public ride page trims the start and end of the route so it can’t reveal where you live.

Tarmac Nation uses these de-identified rides to build and publicly display the most-loved roads across QLD and Australia — how many riders rode a road over a period, and which roads and routes are ridden most. We show how many, never who. We never publish an individual’s ride, track, identity, or that a specific person rode a road.

• A figure is only ever shown once at least five distinct riders sit behind it; below that it’s withheld.
• Organised group rides count too: if you RSVP “going” to a ride, that ride’s route adds to the anonymous rider-count for the roads along it (headcount only, never who).
• We may also provide the same aggregate, de-identified figures to partners — such as venues along popular roads, local councils and road authorities. We never sell your personal information or individual movements.

We use trusted providers to run the service, who process data on our behalf:

• Supabase — database, authentication and storage.
• Google — sign-in (OAuth) and live business ratings (Places API).
• Vercel — website hosting and analytics.
• Resend — sending email.

We don’t sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

We use cookies and your browser’s local storage to keep you signed in and remember your preferences and saved items.

You control your ride data from your rider profile: change or withdraw either recording consent at any time, and delete all your recorded and imported rides (and their stored tracks) yourself, whenever you like.

You can delete your whole account yourself at any time — open your rider profile and use “Delete my account” at the bottom. That permanently removes your profile, rides, RSVPs and saved places. You can also access or correct your information by emailing us. We keep personal information only as long as needed to provide the service or as required by law.
